Mr. Fang Jun, Deputy Director-General of Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges, Mr. Chen Dali, Director of Division of American and Oceanian Affairs, and Mr. Yan Bingcheng, Director of Division of Cross-border Education were present. Dr. Farahi first shared his view on global education. He believed in this era of deepening globalization and rapid technological progress, the way people access information has significantly changed, and that requires us to push education development forward, enhance cooperation between China and US in higher education, and build the bridge of China-US cultural exchange, so as to enable more information channels.

Dr. Farahi said that he hopes MOE could continue to support WKU in communicating with provincial and municipal governments, providing more opportunities for key research projects and funds, offering scholarship for international students and offering more guidance for WKU’s development.

Mr. TIAN welcomed Dr. Farahi and his delegation on behalf of MOE. He noted that China and US, as the largest developing country and the largest developed country respectively, need to further cooperation in education, which will exert an important role in promoting bilateral relations and world development.

“Wenzhou-Kean University is a pioneer in China-US education cooperation.” Mr. TIAN reviewed the whole process of the university’s agreement signing and development in retrospect, and said that the Party Central Committee and leadership of all administrative levels are highly supportive and cared about the development of the University. In 2015, President XI Jinping mentioned Wenzhou-Kean University in particular during the China-U.S. Governors Forum. Now Wenzhou-Kean University has harvested its fruitful achievements with a 99% employment rate among the first graduate cohort. This year, many of the second graduate cohort choose to further their study in top universities all around the world. Speaking of the university’s achievements, Mr. TIAN spoke highly of the education quality of Wenzhou-Kean University. Mr. TIAN said China-U.S. education cooperation enables excellent education resources sharing to cultivate talents with global visions. It is reciprocal to both sides.

Mr. TIAN also extended his expectations on Wenzhou-Kean University’s future development. He hopes that Wenzhou-Kean University continues to play the important role of bridging the two countries’ communication in areas of education, talent cultivation and youth connection; to integrate excellent education resources of new, highly-demanded and weak disciplines; to serve social and economic development on a practical basis and grow into an “experimental field” to explore successful models for Sino-foreign education cooperation; to strengthen quality management and improve education quality assurance system.

Mr. TIAN also conveyed the sincere wishes of Dr. Farahi’s “old friend”— the former Vice Minister of China’s Ministry of Education Mr. ZHANG Xinsheng.
