On October 28th, 2017, at 9AM, the 13th annual Asian Education Forum was held in Chengdu, Sichuan province with the Vice President of China Association of Higher Education, Guan Peijun, presiding over the opening ceremony of the forum. Government officials, ambassadors to China, university presidents, and representatives of international organizations from 29 countries and regions gathered in the city to discuss the topic of “Education connects the world and innovation leads the future”. Dr. Holger Henke, Vice President of Academic Affairs of Wenzhou-Kean University, was invited to attend the annual meeting on behalf of the university.

Mr. Du Yubo said that in Asian countries, especially in East Asian countries, the curriculum places great importance on the basic knowledge and skills training. As such, he suggests Asian countries to work together and walk on the road of an education environment full of regional characteristics, exchange, and cooperation.

During the “One Belt One Road” think-tank forum in the afternoon, national government officials, key university Presidents, head of the think-tank, and regional planning experts of the “One Belt One Road” from different nations discussed about how to better use the One Belt One Road think-tank resources in colleges and universities, and how an interconnected exchange of academic research and talent could be achieved.

Participants also engaged in topics such as “The exchange and cooperation of international education,” “The culture of science and technology and the education of science popularization,” and “The education under Internet plus era” at the annual forum.

At 2pm, Dr. Henke was invited to participate in the parallel forum of “The exchange and cooperation of international education”, where he had dialogues and discussions with the dean of the School of Arts and Sciences in New York Shanghai University. During a discussion, Dr. Henke mentioned that Wenzhou-Kean University, as an international university of Sino-US cooperation, has three distinct advantages: First, an English language environment. Second, American courses and an American education with international qualified teachers. Third, an international management system and atmosphere, hence fostering the students’ cultural competitiveness. At the same time, the university of Wenzhou-Kean has been committed to openness, inclusiveness, and international practices. In addition, students of Wenzhou-Kean University are continuously going out. We have two graduated classes now, and many of those students have gone to excellent universities abroad for further study.

‘I see the growth of our students in their four years in Wenzhou-Kean University, seeing their ability of independence, curiousness when they graduated, seeing them going out to the society with confidence and determination on behalf of Wenzhou-Kean. I feel very happy about their change and progress. And I believe that the future of Wenzhou-Kean University is bright, and the students are outstanding.’

Dr. Henke also shared his research topics on the international relations of Caribbean, Europe, America and Asia. He expressed his gratitude to the platform of Asian Education Forum, which gathered scholars and education experts from all walks of life, to have this opportunity to share and learn from each other. The future of education in China and Asia looks very promising.

The forum held its closing ceremony and product launch at 11.30 am on Sunday, October 29, 2017.
