RESEARCH INTEREST:

I am a synthetic organic chemist. My research interests involve Diels-Alder cycloaddition reactions. I use steric buttresses to synthesize compounds of biological importance which otherwise cannot be made without the buttresses. I intend to make Kainic acid using this technique if I am allowed to do research at WKU.

ACADEMIC EXPERIENCE:

I HAVE TAUGHT GENERAL, ORGANIC AND BIOCHEMISTRY TO NURSING STUDENTS AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INCLUDING LABS AS WELL AS CONDUCTED UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FOR CHEMISTRY MAJORS FOR FIVE YEARS AT MOUNT MARTY COLLEGE, TAUGHT GENERAL AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INCLUDING LABS AS WELL AS CONDUCT UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH FOR CHEMISTRY MAJORS FOR 8 YEARS AS ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AT UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA AIKEN, TAUGHT GENERAL AND ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INCLUDING LABS TO PREMEDICAL STUDENTS AT WEILL CORNELL MEDICAL COLLEGE IN DOHA, QATAR FOR FOUR YEARS, CURRENTLY TEACHING ORGANIC CHEMISTRY INCLUDING LABS AT WENZHOU-KEAN UNIVERSITY IN WENZHOU, CHINA.

Since I have been in the academic field for such a long time, I have also helped in developing, assessing and revising curriculum as well as advise and mentor students in curriculum and career choices. I also participated in recruitment of students.

(2) Attended a workshop at Holly Marine Lab, a Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Summer Camp for 2010 in Charleston, South Carolina.

Attended a Fourier Transform-Infra Red (FT-IR) course, servicing and tuning, at the Midwest Forensics Resource Center, Ames Laboratory, Iowa State University, by instructors from Shimadzu on August 9, 10, 2006.

Attended a four-day workshop on the use of NMR spectroscopy twice, University of South Dakota, June 2005, June 2006. This included: 1H, 13C NMR, NOE, NOESY, APT, DEPT, 2D-NMR, TOCSY, 1D-TOCSY, HETCOR, and HMQC.

Attended and successfully completed a four-day course on the Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) QP-5000 series with GCMS solution software at Shimadzu Scientific instruments in Baltimore, Maryland in October 2004.

(3) Spring 2010, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 recipient of the American Chemical Society-Savannah River Section Travel Grant for an undergraduate student.

Magellan Scholarship, $5977, awarded to two students at USCA to do research under my supervision in 2008.

INBRE Grant- Collaborator of the INBRE (Idea Networks of Biomedical Research Excellence), received $600 thousand for my research projects for a period of 5 years.

(4) On June 17, 2013, because of my very good evaluations regarding teaching and research, I was promoted to associate professor at the university of South Carolina Aiken. My dedication to students was recognized in 2017 during WCM-Q’s annual faculty awards ceremony as I received Honorable Mention for Teaching Excellence among all teaching specialists

(5)Since 2005 I am licensed by Federal Aviation Administration to fly single engine airplanes and that is the only hobby I have.
