The inspiration of the new planning in New York metropolitan area

On March 13th, Tom Wright, President of Regional Plan Association, Adjunct Professor of Columbia University, will provide a lecture named “Planning the New York Metropolitan Region” at Wenzhou-Kean University. Mr. Tom Wright will give an all-dimensional introduction of the Regional Plan Association’s Fourth Regional Plan. (New York Metropolitan Region involves New York, Connecticut and New Jersey).

The Regional Plan Association (RPA) is an independent urban planning think tank that focuses on improving the prosperity, infrastructure, sustainability and quality of life of the New York-New Jersey-Connecticut metropolitan region. In 1929, 1968 and 1996, the association launched the plans for New York Metropolitan Region which played an important role in regional development. In April 2013, the RPA launched the fourth regional plan offers four themes: “economic opportunity, livability, sustainability, governance and finance”, to provide a blueprint for the future development of New York Metropolitan Region.

President Wright is responsible for guiding the organization’s work on government reform, transportation modernization, environmental challenges and the need to offer opportunity to all the region’s residents. As a leading thinker on urban and regional policy, he is also a frequent speaker, lecturer and commentator on economic growth and development, roads and transit, good governance and other public policy issues.

This time, Mr. Tom Wright will visit Wenzhou with a team of 14 people from Columbia University’s “Global Campus” research project to investigate the planning and design of Wenzhou-Kean University and Kean Town*. During their stay from March 10th to March 15th, the team will investigate WKU and Kean Town, interviewing officials from Li’ao and Ouhai District, WKU administrators, students and local residents. The members of the research project include Maxine Griffith, the senior advisor to the President of Columbia University in the United States, Angela Lee, the project instructor and 11 graduate students.

The lecture will be delivered in both Chinese and English. Any concerned people who are interested are welcomed.
