Meeting between College of Liberal Arts and Zhejiang Yuexiu University

On Tuesday, March 30th, 2021,College of Liberal Arts, Wenzhou Kean University, received a delegation fromCollege of English, Zhejiang Yuexiu University, and held an exchange learning meeting aiming to promote communication and cooperation between the two universities.

After a four-and-half-hour drive, the representatives of Yuexiu English College finally arrived at WKU campus, and managed to take a campus tour before the meeting officially started. They visited the infrastructure construction such as General Education Hall, CBPM Building, and Gehekai Hall. These innovative, practical and modern buildings were highly appraised. After a short break, the exchange and learning meeting soon began.

At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Yu Weihua, Dean of College of English, Zhejiang Yuexiu University made a detailed English introduction to the majors, academic plan, faculty and students, and teaching achievements of their college. Since its establishment, College of English has been actively implementing the SPT talent training system. Currently, the college has four undergraduate majors, namely English, business English, translation and preschool education. Next, Gary Linebarger, Director School of English Studies, WKU CLA, briefly introduced the characteristics and prospects of WKU English major (English in Global Settings Option). Our English program has a high degree of flexibility. It focuses on the cultivation of advanced English application skills, encourages students to prepare for the success of various careers, and deeply understand all aspects of language learning.

After that, Dr. Andy Halvorsen, coordinator of WKU Instruction and Curriculum M.A. gave a detailed introduction to the program, which aims to cultivate English teachers who use English as a second language. He showed some of the course contents, graduation requirements and excellent teaching faculty, as well as the unique advantages of this program. One of the highlights was the Cam TESOL Conference, which attracted everyone’s attention. Dr. Halvorsen explained that this is the world’s second largest international English Teacher Certification Department, second to TESOL headquarters in the United States. Dr. Yu expressed his great interest in this postgraduate program in WKU. In addition, Ms. Wu Yong, Deputy Dean of College of English, Zhejiang Yuexiu University, also proposed to establish teaching research cooperation projects between the two universities.

At the end of the meeting, Dr. Yu cordially invited the delegation of WKU to Shaoxing for a visiting trip. Both two universities sent each other beautiful gifts to show their appreciation and best wishes. This meeting was believed to be the starting point for the long-term cooperation between the two universities.
