Program Description


Wenzhou-Kean University’s Computer Information Systems (Master of Science) major aims to train students to become leaders in the field of computer science and information systems, and can engage in work related to business, government, banking, e-sports, IT industry and other fields. Students can gain an in-depth understanding of different aspects of the field, and learn how to design, build and maintain complex systems, and master current related cutting-edge technologies. At the same time, the major encourages students to work closely with teachers to conduct longer-term and detailed work and research. Course modules consist of: computer information systems, advanced analytical algorithms, database systems, software engineering, software assurance, independent graduate studies in computer science, numerical analysis, computer simulation of models, network systems, artificial intelligence concepts, high-performance computing, etc. Graduates can be engaged in software engineering, information technology system development, network security, artificial intelligence, machine learning, security monitoring and other related work.

The Master of Computer Information Systems (CIS) degree has the following program educational objectives:

Admission requirements


  1. Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in computer science or a closely related field

*Applicants, if not graduated from U.S. institutions, must submit a course-by-course evaluation of their official university transcript by National Association of Credit Evaluation Services (NACES) (http://www.naces.org), such as the International Education Evaluation (IEE) or World Education Services (WES) (need to choose course-by-course evaluation).

  1. Official transcripts from all institutions attended, cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 (lower GPAs will be considered based on strength of overall application)
  2. Two letters of recommendation
  3. Professional résumé/CV
  4. Personal statement
  5. Departmental interview may be required
  6. Official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo score reports of test taken within the past two years of application

*Before starting the graduate courses, the Graduate Admissions Committee of the program will fully evaluate the applicant’s academic background and determine whether the applicant needs to take prerequisite courses. The prerequisite courses include Algorithm Analysis, System Analysis and Design, Computer Security, Computer Organization and Architecture, Discrete Math, Calculus II, proficiency in Java, C++ or an equivalent.

Graduation Requirements


The Computer Information Systems (M.S.) curriculum is comprised of 30 credits. Students who complete each course requirement including the research project (CPS 5995) and achieve a grade point average (GPA) no less than 3.0 will be conferred the Computer Information Systems (M.S.) degree of Kean University.
