Biography
A WKU Lecturer of English, Danny Dyer has varied experience teaching subjects including Literature, Creative Writing, Composition, and ESL. Danny holds an M.A. in Literature and an M.F.A. in Poetry from University of Alaska, Fairbanks, where he first began teaching. Prior to his teaching career, Danny worked or interned as an editor and journalist for various publications, and his own fiction, poetry, nonfiction, journalism, and criticism have appeared in literary and academic journals and been awarded numerous prizes.
Originally a native of California, Danny’s background as a first-generation college student helped spur his passion for teaching and his desire to work with underprivileged students. Danny has spent much of his life traveling, having lived in places as distinct as Hawaii, Alaska, Texas, and central California, and his love of exploring helped influence his move to China. Danny’s pedagogy can best be described as student centered, as he strives to meet students on their level and create warm, productive learning environments.
Danny’s professional interests include creative writing, Scandinavian film and literature, formal poetry, faith, and criticism. Danny’s M.A. thesis, titled Sacred Trauma, applied Lacanian psychoanalysis to examine the intersections between faith and trauma in the films of Ingmar Bergman. His M.F.A. thesis work, Leadlight, involved a collection of autobiographical sonnets, villanelles, terzanelles, and sestinas. When not working, Danny enjoys spending time with his wonder wife, Christi, and their little dog, Nemo.
