• Zhejiang Kean Institution of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship

Wenzhou-Kean University, cooperating with the government, universities, research institutions, non-governmental organizations and other related organizations of New Jersey, founded Zhejiang-Kean Institution of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship. The institution focuses on attracting overseas high-level talents and introducing science and technology programs into strategic emerging industries. These aim at making full use of North-American talent resources in science and technology; creating platforms for Sino-US talent introduction, business incubators, industrial and financial investments, entrepreneurs’ friendship building and talent resources; promoting Sino-US cooperation in science, technology, economics and trade; contributing to regional economic and social development. Additionally, the institution makes connections with economic and technological development zones, new and high technology industry development zones, industry clusters, university science parks and enterprises to provide services for transferring technical achievements. At the same time, it offers science and technology companies and high and new technology industries a range of supporting services, involving the science information and management counseling, personnel training, exchanges in science, technology, economy and trade, as well as services for financial investment.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) – Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (WETDZ) Strategic Cooperation Platform

In order to deepen the strategic industry-university-research (IUR) cooperation between the university and the local government, to promote the sharing of high-quality resources between the two sides, and to enhance regional innovation capabilities, the management committee of Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone (WETDZ) and Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU) have developed an all-round cooperation in economy, trade, scientific research, innovation, entrepreneurship, personnel training, internship, employment and decision-making consultation. In scientific research cooperation, companies in the development zone are encouraged to cooperate with WKU to establish laboratories and R&D centers, and actively introduce high-tech talents and projects from American universities and research institutions to develop and implement innovation projects in science and technology.

The management committee will priorly provide these cooperated projects with district level financial support as well as support the declaration of R&D centers and technology projects of all levels and all kinds. In order to promote the development of innovation and entrepreneurship, the overseas entrepreneurship parks, business incubators, and maker spaces give priority to offering opportunities for WKU students to start up business. Students’ enterprises will also enjoy preferential policies for business incubators and other related areas. Up till now, ten Wenzhou-Kean University international talents fieldwork bases such as Penta-Chutian Laser (Wenzhou) Co.,Ltd have been established. Also, WKU — Makepower Electronic Joint Research Center and WKU – ERKN Biology Research & Development Lab have been established. Ten outstanding Entrepreneurs have been hired to work as business startup tutors in Wenzhou-Kean University Makerspace.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University – Hangzhou Shangcheng District Strategic Cooperation Platform

On Jun 7th 2018, Hangzhou Shangcheng District signed the strategic cooperation agreement with Wenzhou-Kean University. Taking the advantage of Zhejiang Kean Institution of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship, the two sides will spare no effort to promote innovation in science and technology through incubating five collaborative platforms.

The five collaborative platforms:

Science and technology talent recruitment platform

It gives full play to the resource advantages of universities, governments, research institutions and non-governmental organizations, and focus on introducing a number of overseas high-level talents and teams that can drive the development of high-tech and emerging industries

Incubation and entrepreneurship platform

An overseas innovation incubator center will be built in New Jersey, USA, and Kean Youth Maker Center will be built in the Entrepreneurship Center of Shangcheng District. The focus is on introducing a number of Chinese and American technology entrepreneurs to create a technology-based, high-growth enterprise in Shangcheng District.

Industry and investment platform

It will actively build a Sino-U.S. entrepreneurship friendship platform, promote communications and contacts between Chinese and American Chambers of commerce and entrepreneurs, and organize visits between Chinese and American organizations and enterprises from time to time to promote economic and trade cooperation and exchanges.

High-tech research platform

It will offer opportunities for Chinese and American wisdom to conduct research in economics, humanities and other disciplines. Each year, the two sides will cooperate to hold influential public events such as international academic forums and conferences.

International talent cultivation platform

It will actively explore the mode of jointly cultivating innovative talents.

  • WKU Autism Research Center

To meet the special needs of autistic children, we have developed offline products as well as online applications to help them receive high-quality education and leading a better life.

Wenzhou-Kean University Creative City Research Center will actively build the bridge between researchers from Wenzhou-Kean University and professionals and specialists at urban planning, urban culture and economy, to carry out research on creative cities and modern landscape cities, construct the theoretical system of landscape creative cities, as well as comparative studies of typical cities. The Center will mainly focus on “inheritance and innovation of modern landscape city to traditional landscape city”, “how to build a creative city with Chinese landscape culture characteristics”, “the role of landmark buildings in creative city”, “how to create landscape culture and artistic conception in modern city”. The Center will take Wenzhou City as the main sample, conduct a comparative study with Chinese and foreign landscape cities and creative cities, and actively participate in the project consultation and research activities related to the development of Wenzhou landscape cities and creative cities, so as to better apply the research results to the practice of Wenzhou City construction and development.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Center for Social Enterprise and Charity

Wenzhou-Kean University Center for Social Enterprise and Charity (CSEC) will be serving new knowledge for government to help establishing the best public policy for social enterprise. Also, CSEC will provide the strategic consulting service in operating Wenzhou Charity Federation. Establishing the CSES will integrate and synergize governmental, academic, and industrial actions of impact investment that aim to creating public value for people, community, and the world.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Public Architecture and Design Research Institute

Wenzhou-Kean University Public Architecture and Design Research Institute aims to produce research and design proposals on Wenzhou-Kean surrounding environment (Wenzhou and its region and beyond) in the public interest. Its area of expertise range from Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Design, Graphic Design, to Industrial Design and Interior Design.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University China-U.S. Cultural Exchange Research Center

Wenzhou-Kean University China-U.S. Cultural Exchange Research Center will use the platform of teaching and research of Wenzhou-Kean University to integrate and link up Chinese and foreign academic and scientific research resources and promote the communication between China and the United States in the fields of education, culture and scientific research, and to carry out research on the active role of Chinese and overseas Chinese in the field of cultural exchange between China and the United States. On this basis, the scope of work of the research center will be gradually expanded, more in-depth dialogue and research will be carried out in the field of cultural exchange mechanism construction between China and the United States, and multi-level channels of cultural exchange will be constructed.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Branding Research Institute

Wenzhou-Kean University Branding Research Institute is jointly initiated by Wenzhou Market Supervision Bureau and Wenzhou-Kean University, and operated by College of Business and Public Management. Relying on the marketing talents and design talents from College of Business and Public Management and Michael Graves College, the Institute unites government agencies, market entities, and social organizations involved in planning, design and brand marketing to jointly build Wenzhou city brand, regional brand, business brand, and public welfare brand.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Interactive Learning Immersive Virtual Reality Institute

The institute’s main objective is oriented towards applying and utilizing immersive virtual reality technology to enhance students interactive learning experience throughout various majors and courses in the College of Liberal Arts. Based on which, several interesting research directions shall branch out to push the current knowledge and boundaries of scientific research. As the institute tackles current issues in art, education, and psychology using qualitative and quantitative research methods unique to the various disciplines that the multidisciplinary members of our diverse group possess.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Institute of Societal & Contemporary Computing

The Centre’s research focuses more on the economic and social problems. This institute takes up research in the fields of multidisciplinary projects in different fields like Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Pubic security, Irrigation and Water Management, Public Finance, Demography, Health and Environment. It also undertakes research projects sponsored by in and out of Wenzhou city industries, as well as international agencies like Bank, Department for International Development, Airlines, conducting interdisciplinary research in analytical and applied areas of social sciences encompassing socio-economic and other aspects of societal development. The idea behind this Center is equipped with advanced computer and hardware and software kits so that students can come with solutions and innovations. Its sphere of research activity would be expanded beyond WKU covering other areas of the Zhejiang provenience and global problems in computer science.
