• Wenzhou-Kean University Chemical Materials Research Center

The Chemical Materials Research Center of Wenzhou-Kean University mainly carries out interdisciplinary research in chemistry and life, materials, energy, environment, and other fields. Key research areas include the preparation and green application of nanomaterials, the study of photoelectric functional materials, the green preparation and application of polymer materials, the application of nanomaterials in new energy, the study of green pharmaceuticals synthesis, and molecular structure chemical calculation, etc. The director strives to build the center into a research base with high interdisciplinary integration and domestic advanced level. With the help of the Wenzhou-Kean University Sino-foreign cooperative education platform, the center will be built into a window for international exchanges and a talent training base in the field of chemical cross-research. Based on the construction platform of the Wenzhou National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, the center will explore a new development model of industry, education, and research, and build the center into an industrialization base to promote industrial upgrading and serve the local economy.

Based on the reality of China’s education opening to the outside world in the new development stage, Wenzhou-Kean University International Higher Education Research Center anchors the forefront of world education research and relies on the Sino-foreign cooperative school running platform Wenzhou-Kean University, summarizes the experience. Through the research on the basic theory of school running, Party building, system construction, teaching mode, campus management, and cooperative projects, the center will actively integrate into the new development pattern of Chinese foreign collaborative schools running under practice guidance. It aims to provide more overall and forward-looking innovative achievements for the country and society and make unique contributions to promoting the sustainable development of Chinese foreign cooperation in running schools.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Institute on Innovation and Assistive Technology for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Wenzhou-Kean University Institute on Innovation and Assistive Technology for Autism & Neurodevelopmental Disorders adheres to the mission of “remain true to the original aspiration and feed the society with scientific and technological innovation,” the center insists on doing an excellent job in every project. In the future, the center will strive to become a telemedicine service center for children with autism with regional and even national influence, providing scientific and technological support and services of personalized interventional therapy for the rehabilitation of Chinese children with autism. The center will focus on education and actively provide professional theoretical guidance and practical support services for education departments and special education schools to give back to society.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Biodiversity and Ecosystem Science Research Institute

Wenzhou-Kean University Biodiversity and Ecosystem Science Research Institute aims to develop the Wenzhou region into long-term biodiversity and ecosystem science research area with the primary focus on expanding the understanding of biodiversity in a sub-tropical forest biome. This primary objective will be accomplished by investigating how undisturbed and disturbed ecosystems function over time, how humans interact, affect, and utilize these systems, and how these interactions impact human and ecosystem sustainability in the Wenzhou region.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Computation

Wenzhou-Kean University Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Computation (CAMMC) is proposed to support the development and application of applied mathematics and its applications. The Centre will be a multidisciplinary research center in the College of Science and Technology at Wenzhou-Kean University. By bringing together researchers from an extensive variety of disciplines, the Center serves as a fusion point for applied mathematics, statistics, computation, and related sciences. The Center will carry out the applied interdisciplinary research and also train young researchers from WKU and other institutions. The Center will host workshops, seminars, and conferences on topics on applied mathematical modeling and computation.

Wenzhou-Kean University Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Center (WKU CSAI) Laboratory aims to pioneer new research in applied computer science and artificial intelligence that improves our daily life and benefit humanity. The laboratory’s main goal is to leverage new technologies and conduct applied research that solves real-world problems in various fields of interest such as Transportation, Energy, Education, Health Care, etc.

WKU CSAI projects to apply knowledge in Computer Science, including in interdisciplinary areas that extend the scope of Computer Science and benefit humanity. WKU CSAI will contribute positively to the image of WKU, and to the economic well-being of our region and nation and who are prepared to tackle complex challenges facing the world.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Center for Big Data and Decision-Making Technologies

Wenzhou-Kean University Center for Big Data and Decision-Making Technologies is aiming to apply big data technologies to solve complex business-related problems and make optimal business decisions, by incorporating the strength from various disciplines related to business practices. The Center’s purposes include interdisciplinary research efforts, transfer of knowledge and technologies, and creative teaching techniques. To sum up, the center is oriented from the following initiatives, including research, teaching, and transfer of innovative technologies to practical problem-solving in the business world, so a sustainable process of developing and applying big data technologies for decision making can be formulated and research achievements can be expected.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Design Innovation and Sustainability Center

The institution aims to conduct theoretical and applied research in the fields of industrial design, radical product-service innovation, and sustainability, connecting the department of the WKU School of Design with other WKU Departments, companies, and diverse local entities. The institution is multidisciplinary and collaborative and acts as a platform for faculties, students, partner companies, and the Wenzhou community to try and create new meaningful projects.

Wenzhou-Kean University Centre for Educational Research, Innovation and Development aims to bring together the shared expertise of research and practice to develop leadership, educational development, educational improvement, teacher development, school effectiveness and create a new knowledge base in the field of education through research that is focused on the Chinese context. The Center ambitiously pursues a growth and engagement agenda, including expanding partnership work at local, provincial, national, and international levels.

The center will foster collaborative partnerships within the university, with educational institutions in the province and at the national level and with institutions and scholars at the international level to promote advancements in professional education, develop innovative solutions for current issues of education practice, and support collaborative research in public schools and the institutions of higher education. As national education policy evolves, CERID strives to provide up-to-date, relevant data useful to both schools and policymakers through high-quality research, rigorous program evaluation, and published research and policy briefs. The CERID’s mission is to make WKU the center and driving force of public education reform and innovation.

Wenzhou-Kean University Leadership in Education, Advancement and Diversity Research Institute aspires to conduct research and evaluation studies of the highest quality in order to enhance knowledge and contribute to informed policymaking in the field of educational leadership, future education, and social inclusion of people with diverse backgrounds and needs. The center works in partnership with stakeholders including educators, school leaders, policy-makers, families, students, and other collaborators in the universities from various countries. This partnership provides the institution the opportunity to better understand and identify solutions to complex challenges that learners, parents, educators, and leaders face in diverse contexts worldwide. The mission of Wenzhou-Kean University Leadership in Education, Advancement and Diversity Research Institute is to conduct basic, applied and comprehensive world-class research studies globally in educational leadership, future education, and inclusion to provide support and advocate for policy transformation at all educational levels.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Bioinformatics International Science and Technology Cooperation Center

Wenzhou-Kean University Bioinformatics International Science and Technology Cooperation Center focuses on the research and development of biomedicine and big data, will continue to promote scientific research cooperation with the United States and countries along the Belt and Road, and actively serve the construction of Wenzhou National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone to promote the industrial transformation and upgrading of Wenzhou, with the direction of research on tumor biology, research, and development of new antibiotics, and genetic characteristics of host inflammatory storm caused by viruses. At present, the team has 11 members, all of whom are overseas high-level talents with doctoral degrees.

Led by Dr. Eric Yang, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Wenzhou-Kean University, the Wenzhou-Kean University Bioinformatics International Science and Technology Cooperation Center was recognized as the “Provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Base in 2020”. Provincial international science and technology cooperation base (hereinafter referred to as National Cooperation Base) refers to playing an important role in participating in “The Belt and Road” science and technology innovation cooperation, promoting international technology transfer, undertaking international science and technology cooperation tasks, and promoting the improvement of Zhejiang international science and technology cooperation level. Enterprises, scientific research institutes and universities, science and technology intermediaries, incubators, science and technology parks and other institutional carriers with further development potential and leading demonstration roles. The National Cooperation Base is the backbone and core force of Zhejiang province to utilize global scientific and technological resources and participate in international scientific and technological competition and cooperation and plays an important leading and demonstration role in the development of the province’s international scientific and technological cooperation.

  • Wenzhou Applied Biomedical Informatics Key Lab

The Wenzhou Applied Biomedical Informatics Key Lab, headed by Dr. Eric Yang, was successfully selected as the Key Laboratory of Wenzhou. The laboratory is designed to solve human health problems with a wide range of professional knowledge. It is reported that the laboratory has 18 fixed researchers, including 61% of those with doctoral degrees, who are experts in the fields of biology, microbiology, oncology, pharmacy, bioinformatics and computer science. Experts in various fields take advantage of the synergy and complementary of various disciplines to improve human health through innovative research to discover the causes of human diseases.

Wenzhou-Kean University Creative City Research Center will actively build the bridge between researchers from Wenzhou-Kean University and professionals and specialists at urban planning, urban culture and economy, to carry out research on creative cities and modern landscape cities, construct the theoretical system of landscape creative cities, as well as comparative studies of typical cities. The Center will mainly focus on “inheritance and innovation of modern landscape city to traditional landscape city”, “how to build a creative city with Chinese landscape culture characteristics”, “the role of landmark buildings in creative city”, “how to create landscape culture and artistic conception in modern city”. The Center will take Wenzhou City as the main sample, conduct a comparative study with Chinese and foreign landscape cities and creative cities, and actively participate in the project consultation and research activities related to the development of Wenzhou landscape cities and creative cities, so as to better apply the research results to the practice of Wenzhou City construction and development.

Wenzhou-Kean University Center for Social Enterprise and Charity (CSEC) will be serving new knowledge for government to help establishing the best public policy for social enterprise. Also, CSEC will provide the strategic consulting service in operating Wenzhou Charity Federation. Establishing the CSES will integrate and synergize governmental, academic, and industrial actions of impact investment that aim to creating public value for people, community, and the world.

  • Wenzhou-Kean Design Lab (WKDL)

The Wenzhou-Kean Design Lab (WKDL) is the universities newly establish international award winning architecture and design practice and practice-based design research centre— the home of the School of Public Architecture and the School of Design’s creative practice activity. The lab undertakes projects such as architecture and design competitions; exhibition curation, design and installation; research-through-design and research-into-design enquiry; design consultancy and architectural services; product and systems design and development; and research publication and academic scholarship. The lab is open to public and industry collaboration and consultancy, with expertise covering architecture, interior design, urban design and masterplanning, graphic design, industrial design, landscape design, and exhibition curation and design.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University China-U.S. Cultural Exchange Research Center

Wenzhou-Kean University China-U.S. Cultural Exchange Research Center will use the platform of teaching and research of Wenzhou-Kean University to integrate and link up Chinese and foreign academic and scientific research resources and promote the communication between China and the United States in the fields of education, culture and scientific research, and to carry out research on the active role of Chinese and overseas Chinese in the field of cultural exchange between China and the United States. On this basis, the scope of work of the research center will be gradually expanded, more in-depth dialogue and research will be carried out in the field of cultural exchange mechanism construction between China and the United States, and multi-level channels of cultural exchange will be constructed.

Wenzhou-Kean University Branding Research Institute is jointly initiated by Wenzhou Market Supervision Bureau and Wenzhou-Kean University and operated by the College of Business and Public Management. Relying on the marketing talents and design talents from College of Business and Public Management and Michael Graves College, the Institute unites government agencies, market entities, and social organizations involved in planning, design, and brand marketing to jointly build Wenzhou city brand, regional brand, business brand, and public welfare brand.

  • Wenzhou-Kean University Interactive Learning Immersive Virtual Reality Institute

The institute’s main objective is oriented towards applying and utilizing immersive virtual reality technology to enhance students’ interactive learning experience throughout various majors and courses in the College of Liberal Arts. Based on which, several interesting research directions shall branch out to push the current knowledge and boundaries of scientific research. As the institute tackles current issues in art, education, and psychology using qualitative and quantitative research methods unique to the various disciplines that the multidisciplinary members of our diverse group possess.

The Centre’s research focuses more on the economic and social problems. This institute takes up research in the fields of multidisciplinary projects in different fields like Agriculture and Food Security, Education, Public security, Irrigation, and Water Management, Public Finance, Demography, Health, and the Environment. It also undertakes research projects sponsored by in and out of Wenzhou city industries, as well as international agencies like Bank, Department for International Development, Airlines, conducting interdisciplinary research in analytical and applied areas of social sciences encompassing socio-economic and other aspects of societal development. The idea behind this Center is equipped with advanced computer and hardware and software kits so that students can come with solutions and innovations. Its sphere of research activity would be expanded beyond WKU covering other areas of the Zhejiang provenience and global problems in computer science.
