Biography
James Tarwood has worked in secondary and higher education. His career has taken him to Kenya, Turkey, Yemen, Colombia, the United Arab Emirates, and now China. Initially interested in curriculum development and assessment, his interests now are creativity and community self-knowledge. In his previous position, he therefore established a college literary magazine, an internet radio station, and an oral history project that culminated with a book and a video series.
He has published four poetry collections: The Cats in Zanzibar, Grand Detour, And For The Mouth A Flower, and What The Waking See. Norman Dubie in his review of the last book wrote “There are beautiful poems here—though, on occasion, the reader may be stressed encountering the brilliant imagery of this large, ambitious collection; sometimes it’s a little like discovering an erect and hooded cobra in a petting zoo.”
