Simon Higginson was born in North Wales but grew up in Chester, England. After trying his hand at a number of professions, he trained to become an English teacher. He studied a BA in Modern Languages at the University of Central Lancashire that included a year abroad in Chile. Upon finishing his studies, Simon returned to Chile to teach English. In 2006 he joined Chile’s state institution, the University of Chile, as a professor and academic coordinator where he was responsible for designing, implementing and supervising a government-funded English Language programme. In 2009 he completed an MA in Applied Linguistics and became IELTS Examiner Trainer for Chile and Uruguay. Between 2019 and 2021, Simon worked for the British Council in Guangzhou, China, as an IELTS Team Leader. His areas of interest are teaching methodology, material design, using technology in the classroom and assessment. His hobbies include reading, making music, playing football, cooking and exploring new places with his wife, Beatriz.
