Biography

Zachary Waber (Zakk) is an Applied Linguistics scholar that has been involved in academic research and the teaching of English since 2015. Zakk first became involved in TESOL scholarship while studying at Keio University in Japan, where he worked on a TESOL-related honor’s thesis project. Upon returning to the US, Zakk pursued a master’s degree at Cleveland State University in Literacy Development – TESOL (MEd) before embarking once more to Asia to work as an English Lecturer in Guangzhou, China.

Zakk has taught extensively over the past 6 years, teaching in the US, Japan, Macau, China, and Vietnam, and has spent a considerable amount of time in the Philippines where he is planning to conduct research on Philippine English Lexis and Translanguaging. He loves to learn about Asian cultures and to hear stories from students, colleagues, and friends from around the globe. Zakk enjoys studying Japanese and Chinese language, discussing applied linguistics research, backpacking, playing guitar, and surfing. Currently, Zakk is enrolled at the University of Oxford as a graduate student of Applied Linguistics for Language Teaching (MSc).
