Jin-Guang TENG

Prof. Jin-Guang TENG is an Academician of Chinese Academy of Science. He is also a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and a fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Engineering Sciences.

He was born in 1964 in Yongjia County. Wenzhou. He received his BEng degree from Zhejiang University in 1983 and his PhD degree from the University of Sydney in 1990. He holds the positions of Ko Jan Ming Professor in Sustainable Structures and Materials, Chair Professor of Structural Engineering, and Director of Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. His research interest include composite materials in civil engineering and steel structures. He has authored/co-authored some 200 SCI journal papers, leading to over 9000 citations an H index of 48 according to the Web of Science. He proposed a series of theoretical mode of Fiber Reinforced Polymer composites (FRP)-Concrete Interface and FRP-confined concrete and created the FRP-Strengthened RC Structures theory and initiated the research on FRP-concrete-steel hybrid structure. His work has impacted significantly on relevant design guidelines/codes in China, the United States, Britain and Australia. He also conducted deep research in the failure mode of thin-shell structures, and a series of design and calculation method has been adopted by Europe steel structure standard. His research contributions have been recognized by many awards and prizes, including the State Natural Science Award of China (Second Class), inaugural IIFC Medal from International Institute for FRP in Construction, State-of-the-Art of Civil Engineering Award, and Howard Medal from the Institution of Civil Engineers.
