Session 1: AI Practice: Policy Creation and Implementation

This presentation will equip participants with the knowledge to identify and describe the essential elements of an effective AI policy, including key aspects such as ethical considerations, data privacy, and accountability measures. Attendees will also learn practical strategies for implementing their AI policy effectively and developing mechanisms for ongoing monitoring and revision to adapt to technological advancements and emerging challenges. The session will emphasize the importance of gathering and integrating input from a diverse range of stakeholders, ensuring that the policy comprehensively addresses varied concerns and perspectives. By the end of the presentation, participants will be prepared to create and maintain a well-rounded AI policy that supports responsible and effective AI deployment.
Session 2: AI and Information Literacy Online Module
Presenter: Mona Thompson
University of Maryland’s Libraries and Teaching and Learning Transformation Center collaborated to create an online module on AI and Information Literacy that can be inserted into any course. It trains students to evaluate how to use AI-based tools responsibly in academic work by providing a strong foundation on the mechanisms and ethics of these tools as well as strategies for verifying and citing content from them.
