Campus Selection| China Daily "21st Century Cup" National English Speaking Competition

Dear all,

The campus selection of the 27th China Daily “21st Century Cup” National English Competition will be held on March 12, 2022. Details of the competition are as follows:

 

Competition highlights

This competition will also be the Trials for Elite Members of the WKU English Speech Team. The top 5 contestants will be recruited for the WKU Speech Elite Team, receiving comprehensive English training from the English Language Center and weekly professional instruction from College of Liberal Arts professors.

 

Competition Procedure

  1. Official registration: Complete the registration on the official website of 21stcentury English Speech https://contest.i21st.cn/college2021/ or via the Wechat official account “21Century Cup English Speech”;
  2. Jointhe WeChat Group: scan the QR code to join the WeChat group of the competition;

  1. Script upload:Upload a 3min speech script to the above official website or the Wechat official account. Deadline: 23:58, March 7, 2022;
  2. Competition participation: Take part in the competition held at 13:00, March 12, at CBPM C119.

 

 

Competition rules

The competition consists of two rounds. The top 50% of contestants enter the 2nd round. The details are as follows:

Round Requirement
Round 1 3-4 min Prepared speech. Topic: From zero-sum game to a win-win situation
Round 2 2 min Impromptu speech & 1 min Q&A. The contestants draw lots to decide the speech content 15 minutes before the competition. The judges determine the number and range of questions.

 

Awards

First Prize: 1 winner

Second Prize: 3 winners

Third Prize: 6 winners

Winners will receive a certificate from the organizer.

 

Others matters

  1. 1. The Champion will participate in the Zhejiang Provincial Tournament on behalf of WKU.
  2. Contestants ranked from 6thto 10thwill be the team’s substitute members.
  3. To improve speech quality, contestants can book ELC one-on-one tutoring or English Public Speaking workshops.
