WKU Anticipated Faculty Positions 2020-2021 for Doctorate Program

Wenzhou-Kean University (WKU), located in Wenzhou, China, one of three Sino-American universities along with NYU Shanghai and Duke Kunshan University, is approved by the Ministry of Education of China. Launched in 2012, WKU offers a unique model of higher education in partnership with Kean University, a comprehensive, public university in the state of New Jersey that is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. WKU sits on approximately 500 beautiful acres and currently enrolls 2,500 undergraduate students, and it is now in the midst of a rapid growth that will bring enrollment to 8,500 students within the next six years. All instruction is in English and all curriculum is provided by Kean University. In addition to its current 17 undergraduate programs, WKU has been approved by the Ministry of Education for offering 3 doctorate and 8 Master’s programs including TESOL program (M.A.). Wenzhou is one of the most vibrant and economically advanced developed cities on China’s East Coast, located one hour by plane and just over three hours by high-speed train from Shanghai.

In addition, Wenzhou-Kean has a substantial commitment to the teaching of ESL/EFL.

Ed.D in Educational Leadership:

WKU is launching its first doctorate program: Ed.D. program in Educational Leadership starting from fall 2020. WKU is seeking a vibrant candidate to teach a full range of graduate courses including, but not limited to: Political Policy Analysis, Organization Theory and Change, Legal and Policy Issues in Education, School and Community Partnerships, Educational Leadership and Decision-making, School and Community Partnership, and Education Research. Candidate must have at least one year of college teaching experience. Candidate must have an on-going agenda for student engaging research and are expected to publish research outcomes in well-recognized journals. Candidate is expected to advise students to develop dissertation topics and assist in all aspects of the writing process to produce high quality dissertation. In addition to teaching and research, candidate is expected to contribute to the growth of the programs, including, but not limited to curriculum development, program assessment, student recruitment/advisement, office hours, and internship opportunities.

In addition to fulfilling the responsibilities of a faculty member, the candidate will also serve as the program coordinator of the Ed.D. program. Under the direction of the Executive Director of Educational Leadership at Kean USA, the program coordinator of WKU will be responsible for co-administering the Ed.D. program at WKU.  As part of the responsibilities, the program coordinator will ensure that there is continuity and alignment  between the Ed.D. program between Kean USA and the WKU, work with the doctoral program coordinator of Kean USA to ensure that classes are being administered in a cohesive order and that students stay on track in terms of the dissertation process, assist in hiring faculty, answer all inquiries as it relates to the Ed.D. program and the corresponding processes, and host information events and serve as the individual responsible for all aspects pertaining to the Ed.D. program.

This full-time, 12-month faculty position will start fall 2020. This position will be offered at Lecturer level or at the rank of tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor. Lecturer position is non-tenure track and may be renewed on an annual basis. Tenure-track appointment requires research and publications in internationally recognized and vigorously peer-reviewed journals in the field. The candidate will be expected to teach two 3-credit courses in each of the spring and fall semester and one 3-credit course in summer semester. In addition, the candidate will be expected to fulfill duties of program coordinator described above. Also, the candidate is expected to advice doctorate students to conduct research and produce high quality dissertation that is publishable in well recognized journals in the field. The candidate will be expected to participate in the full range of faculty responsibilities, including high quality teaching, research, advising; student learning support; service to the university and/or professional community.

Teaching assignments and related responsibilities may include day, evening, weekend and online courses. Interest or experience in using advanced instructional technologies to improve the teaching/learning process is highly desirable.

Qualifications:

  • The desired candidate will have an earned doctorate in Educational Leadership/Administration with experience as a principal and superintendent highly desirable.  In addition, the ideal candidate will have research experience and working with doctoral students at the dissertation process.
  • A minimum of one year of teaching experience at the post-secondary level and English fluency.

Faculty positions at WKU offer:

  • Annual salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience with the range from $70,000-$78,000 for lecturers; $72,000-$80,000 for Assistant Professors; $78,000-$90,000 for Associate Professors.
