January
On January 5th, the International Honor Society of Psychology at WKU was officially established. It is the only Psi Chi chapter in China. Wenzhou-Kean University(WKU) will be joining Psi Chi’s Eastern Region along with Columbia University, Yale University, and New York University.
February
In February, on February 2nd, the Consulate General of China in New York hosted a special open day event for Kean University students and faculty. Approximately 60 representatives from both Chinese and American Kean University attended. Consul General Huang Ping stated in his welcome speech that the Wenzhou-Kean University program has become a model for China-U.S. educational cooperation.
On February 16th, the Biotechnology Experimental Teaching Center and the Basic Chemistry Experimental Teaching Center of Wenzhou-Kean University received approval as provincial key construction experimental teaching demonstration centers for ordinary undergraduate institutions during the "Fourteenth Five-Year Plan." The ERKN Off-campus Practice Base and the Biological Science Off-campus Practice Education Base also received approval as provincial university student off-campus practice education bases.
March
In March, on March 2nd, a delegation led by Gu Jianxin, the director of the Provincial Foreign Affairs Office, visited Wenzhou-Kean University. Wang Li, then Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Chancellor of WKU, and Zheng Xiaodong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Chancellor, accompanied the delegation.
On March 8th, Gao Fula, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited WKU. The delegation also included Wu Guizhen, the chief expert in biosafety at the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Guo Yanwen, the President of the World Chinese Business Federation, and Zhuge Qichuan, the Vice Chairman of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
On March 12th, the province's first "Zhejiang Overseas Professional Community for Science and Technology" was established at Wenzhou-Kean University. This move aims to strengthen ties with overseas science and technology workers, unleash their innovation potential, and attract more overseas talents to contribute to the "two pioneering" initiative in Zhejiang Province.
On March 20th, Kean University President Lamont Repollet led to delegation to visit WKU. This visit marked the first time in three years that a delegation from Kean USA had visited China, providing an important opportunity to enhance exchanges between the two collaborating institutions and deepen cultural exchanges between provinces and states. Liu Xiaotao, then member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee, met with the delegation and expressed continued support for the high-quality development of the university. Municipal leader Zhang Zhenfeng, Wang Jun, Zhang Jian and Chen Yingxu attended relevant events.
In April, on April 26th, WYSS 2023 One Health International Forum & IBCOP 2023 PC 2, were held at WKU. Leaders and guests such as Chen Yingxu, Deputy Mayor of Wenzhou City, Liu Yixun, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fawn Wang, Chief Advisor for International Affairs and East Asia Affairs Director at Yale University, Zhou Jinfeng, Secretary-General of the China Biodiversity Conservation and Green Development Foundation, and Lin Jianbo, Vice Chairman of the Wenzhou City Science and Technology Association, attended the event.
April
On April 26th, National Service Center for Overseas Intellectual was established at WKU. It became the first university-based high-level overseas talent work base in Wenzhou, playing a crucial role in guiding the gathering of overseas talents, leveraging the intellectual resources for scientific research, and enhancing international cooperation in science and technology.
On May 11th, Wang Li, then Chancellor of WKU, was selected as a special expert in the China Association for Science and Technology's HOME Program – Help Our Motherland through Elite Intellectual Resources from Overseas.

On May 14th, the first International Cultural Festival of Wenzhou-Kean University kicked off in the square of the Student Learning and Activity Center. Students and faculty from nearly 20 countries across seven continents participated, showcasing the cultural charm of various nations through food, music, and cultural experiences.
On May 24th, WKU officially affiliated with the South Campus of Shifu Road Primary School in Wenzhou City, renaming it "Wenzhou-Kean University Foreign Language Primary School." The school will serve as an important platform for teaching and research collaboration, student internships, and volunteer services for WKU.
On May 25th, Lisa Podolny, Director of External Relations at the U.S. Consulate General in Shanghai, and her delegation visited WKU. EVC Dr. Cary Anderson and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Dr. Yan Xiaopeng accompanied them for a tour and discussions.
June
On June 2nd, WKU held the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2023. Over 620 undergraduate students and 40 master's degree graduates set sail from Wenzhou-Kean University toward a broader world. Liu Xiaotao, then member of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee, Wang Jun, then member of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Secretary-General, and Deputy Mayor Chen Yingxu attended the ceremony. Dr. Dawood Farahi, the first President Emeritus of Kean University, served as the keynote speaker.
On June 10th, Wenzhou-Kean University held the fourth meeting of the Expert Consultation Committee. Nine experts with profound professional backgrounds and management experience in international exchanges, Sino-foreign cooperative education, or higher education attended the meeting. The experts included John Huang, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Commerce; Lin Jianhai, former Secretary-General of the International Monetary Fund; Yang Wei, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and former President of Zhejiang University; Teng Jinguang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Hong Kong Polytechnic University; Zhu Meifang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Donghua University; Huang Daren, Director of the "Double High Plan" Construction Consultation Committee and former President of Sun Yat-sen University; Ying Yibin, Academician of the International Eurasian Academy of Sciences and Vice Chairman of the Zhejiang Provincial Association for Science and Technology; and Lin Jinhui, Director of the Center of Research on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools of Xiamen University. They provided guidance and suggestions for the development of the university.
On June 12th, Wenzhou-Kean University One-Health Science Popularization Base was recognized by the Wenzhou Association for Science and Technology as a municipal-level popular science education base, becoming the university's first platform to receive such an honor in the field of popular science education.
From June 20th to June 23rd, Dr. Eric Yang, Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs at Wenzhou-Kean University, and Dr. Yu Jue from the Office of Accreditation and Assessment were invited to attend the 2023 Times Higher Education Asia University Summit. They exchanged and shared insights with international experts and scholars from around the world.
July
On July 4th, Wenzhou-Kean University's Design Laboratory (WKDL) project "Offline Park" won the Sustainable Innovative Design Award at the 21st Century Urban Park International Competition held in Germany. The award-winning project was exhibited at the Federal Garden Exhibition (BUGA 23) in Germany.
August
On August 3rd, College of Business and Public Management at Kean University officially received accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). Less than 6% of business schools worldwide have achieved this prestigious accreditation, marking a milestone in the development of the college.
On August 15th, Pan Hong, a student from Wenzhou-Kean University, was successfully selected as one of the exemplary figures for innovation and entrepreneurship among college students in Wenzhou.
On August 15th, a team led by Lecturers Zhang Bo and Zhou Xuan from the College of Science and Technology at Wenzhou-Kean University won the third prize in both the national and provincial competitions of life science for their research on "Screening of Highly Active Nattokinase and Study on Key Active Sites" and the team research "The Mechanism of Bacillus in Atopic Dermatitis" won the provincial third prize in Zhejiang.

On September 4th, Tang Xiaoshu, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Zhejiang Province, led a team to Wenzhou-Kean University for on-site inspections of the university's orientations, campus environment, and Asian Games security. Wang Beijiao, Secretary of the CPC WKU Party Committee and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Wenzhou-Kean University, Executive Vice Chancellor Cary Anderson, Deputy Secretary of the CPC WKU Party Committee Zheng Xiaodong, and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Eric Yang accompanied the inspection.
On September 8th, Academician Gao Hongjun from the Chinese Academy of Sciences delivered a lecture titled "Grasping the Development Trend of World Science and Technology and Accelerating the Realization of High-level Scientific Self-reliance" at Wenzhou-Kean University.
On September 15th, the torch relay for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou officially started in Wenzhou, and Wang Chengyun, Chairman of the Education Development Foundation of Wenzhou-Kean University, served as the 52nd torchbearer.
On September 20th, the team led by Aloysius Wong from the College of Science and Technology at Wenzhou-Kean University published an article titled "Plant Adenylate Cyclases Have Come Full Circle" in the international authoritative journal "Nature Plants", with an impact factor of 18.
On September 20th, Professor Huang Jiannan, former Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Vice President of the World Wenzhounese Association, and member of the Advisory Committee of Wenzhou-Kean University, delivered a wonderful lecture titled "A Brief Discussion on Sino-US Relations" to the faculty and students of Wenzhou-Kean University.
On September 22nd, Dr. Cary Anderson, Executive Vice Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, and Dr. Yang Yixin, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, were invited to attend the 2023 Forbes China International Education Forum.
On September 25th, the work "Pre" by Zhu Yizheng, a graduate of Wenzhou-Kean University in 2023, was successfully selected for the 2023 Graduate Design Yearbook of the prestigious Asian magazine Graduate360°.
October
On October 8th, Wenzhou-Kean University held the 2023 retreat, inviting all colleges and departments to participate in the construction of "internationalization and high-level university" goals, liberate their minds, conduct in-depth discussions, and boldly innovate to further promote the development of various tasks such as "disciplinary construction, academic development, and student services".
On October 12th, Dr. Yan Xiaopeng, Deputy Secretary of the CPC WKU Party Committee, was invited to attend the 2023 University Presidents Forum hosted by People.cn.
On October 13th, Lin Jianhai, Executive Vice Chairman of the International Financial Forum, former Secretary-General of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and member of the Advisory Committee of Wenzhou-Kean University, gave a lecture titled "Changes in the Global Economic Pattern: Challenges and Opportunities" to the faculty and students of Wenzhou-Kean University.
On October 19th, six professors from Wenzhou-Kean University were selected for the "Global Top 2% Scientists List" by Stanford University in 2023. They are Andrea Gatto and Imran Yousaf from the College of Business, Ali Bahadur, Puneet Rana, Sin-Yeang (Ronald) Teow and Emanuel Guariglia from the College of Science and Technology
On October 26th, Wenzhou-Kean University was successfully selected as a foreign expert workstation in Zhejiang Province.
On October 30th, Wang Jiayi, member of the Party Group and Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education, visited Wenzhou-Kean University to encourage the university to continue to serve as a bridge for Sino-US cooperation and exchange and a bond for people-to-people friendship, allowing more Chinese students to experience the charm of international education. Ren Youqun, Director-General of the Department of Teacher Education, Tang Xiaoshu, Deputy Director of the Education Department of Zhejiang Province, Chen Yingxu, Deputy Mayor of Wenzhou, and main leaders of Wenzhou Municipal Education Bureau and Ouhai District accompanied the visit.
On October 31st, Yi Lianhong, Secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress, met with Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University in the United States, and his delegation in Hangzhou. Yi Lianhong appreciated Lamont Repollet's contributions to promoting cultural exchanges between China and the United States through cooperation in running schools, and expressed that Zhejiang has always resolutely implemented the decisions and arrangements of President Xi Jinping, attaching great importance to and supporting the construction and development of Wenzhou-Kean University. With the joint efforts of both sides, Wenzhou-Kean University has developed distinctive characteristics, cultivated outstanding talents, and opened up channels for international exchanges, becoming an important symbol of friendly exchanges between Zhejiang Province and New Jersey for a long time. He hoped that both sides would further deepen cooperation, introduce high-quality resources, innovate educational models, promote cultural exchanges, better serve the people, benefit the people, jointly promote the construction and development of Wenzhou-Kean University to create new brilliance, and write a new chapter in the friendly relations between the province and the state. Provincial leaders Wang Cheng and Lu Shan attended the meeting.
November
On November 2nd, Zhang Zhenfeng, Deputy Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and Mayor, met with Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University in the United States, and his delegation. Zhang Zhenfeng welcomed Lamont Repollet's visit to Wenzhou again and thanked Kean University in the United States for its long-term care and support for the construction and development of Wenzhou-Kean University. He hoped that both sides would work towards the direction of "high-level, internationalized, and demonstrative" education, jointly promote high-level academic program construction, high-level talent training, and high-level two-way exchanges, and accelerate the creation of a model of Sino-US cooperative education. The Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee and the municipal government will, as always, support the construction and development of Wenzhou-Kean University, and strive to create first-class conditions for its international education. Deputy Mayor Chen Yingxu attended the meeting.
On November 2nd, the 2023 Board of Directors meeting of Wenzhou-Kean University was held, marking the first time in four years that directors from both China and the United States attended an offline board meeting together.
On November 6th, Tian Xuejun, Deputy Director of the Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee of the National People's Congress, led a team to inspect and research at Wenzhou-Kean University.
On November 6th, Chen Zuorong, Chairman of the Municipal Political Consultative Conference, came to Wenzhou-Kean University to preach the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's inspection of Zhejiang, and conducted on-site investigations of our university’s student learning and activity center to better understand the situation of facility construction and student work.
From November 7th to November 8th, Dr. Eric Yang, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Wenzhou-Kean University, was invited to attend the 2023 Times Higher Education Innovation and Impact Summit.
On November 10th, Dr. Eric Yang, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs of Wenzhou-Kean University, was awarded the "West Lake Friendship Award" of Zhejiang Province in 2023.
On November 12th, a team from Wenzhou-Kean University (Sun Yuling, majoring in English, and Dong Caiwei, majoring in English, supervised by Wu Jiang) won the second prize in the National Finals of the 2023 China University Student English Debate Competition (CUDC).
On November 11th, one of the main forums of the 2023 World Young Scientists Summit, the China-Nordic Sustainable Development International Cooperation Forum, was held at Wenzhou-Kean University.
On November 12th, Li Chenhui, a computer science major at the College of Science and Technology of Wenzhou-Kean University, won the third prize in the "Network Security Knowledge Challenge". The team composed of computer science majors Wang Yibo, Chen Wenjie, and Zhang Hanfei won the third prize in the "Network Skills Challenge", achieving new breakthroughs in the competition awards of the university's directory.
From November 13th to November 17th, the Art Troupe of Kean University won one first prize and the Outstanding Creation Award, four second prizes, and the Outstanding Organization Award in the "National Soul • Chinese Dream" Zhejiang Province College Student Art Festival in 2023, achieving a record high in history.
On November 30th, Wenzhou-Kean University was invited to participate in the "Echoing China" Tencent Education Annual Forum and won the 2023 Annual Influence Sino-Foreign Cooperative Colleges Award.
December
On December 6th, the "Learning and Inquiry" Ideological Sharing Conference, jointly sponsored by the China Internet News Center (China.org.cn) and the Propaganda Department of the Communist Party Committee of Wenzhou City, and hosted by Wenzhou-Kean University, was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. Huang Youyi, Executive Vice President of the Translators Association of China, former Deputy Director-General and Chief Editor of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration, Wang Xiaohui, Chief Editor of China.org.cn and Vice President of the China Academy of Translation, and Wang Wen, Executive Dean of the Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies of Renmin University of China, delivered keynote speeches on the theme of "Deepening Civilization Exchange and Mutual Learning" and exchanged views with nearly 300 representatives from relevant departments directly under the Wenzhou Municipal Government and faculty and students from universities in Wenzhou.
On December 21st, Dr. Alexander Scott English, Associate Professor of the Department of Psychology, College of Liberal Arts, Wenzhou-Kean University, won the Key Project Funding of the 2024 Provincial Soft Science Research Plan for his research project "How to Attract, Develop and Retain Returning Talents from Zhejiang: A Multi-level Study Based on the Embedded Theory of Work". He was previously selected as the "Oujiang Youth Social Science Scholar" in Wenzhou in 2023.
December 14th
Wenzhou-Kean University(WKU)was selected as the third batch of Zhejiang International Cultural Exchange Base. Assistant Professor Maurizio Vrenna from the School of Architecture and Design at WKU was selected as a “Friendly Ambassador of Picturesque Zhejiang”.
December 7th –11th
the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National College Students English Speaking Contest concluded successfully with the National Finals. Gao Yuchen, a WKU student from Class of 2024 was awarded the Second Prize nationally.
November 28th
Chinese Consul General in New York Huang Ping visited Kean University located in New Jersey and met with representatives of Chinese exchange students from Wenzhou-Kean University who were studying in the United States. Led by Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University, the delegation from the Consulate engaged in an immersive campus visit, warmly interacted with faculty and students, and held discussions with Senior Vice President Felice Vazquez and Dr. Cary Anderson, the WKU Executive Vice Chancellor, as well as over ten members of the university’s leadership team. The delegation also had friendly exchanges with Chinese exchange students. Consul Yang Zhongbo from the Education Section accompanied the event.
November 19th
the Green Development Forum, hosted by Wenzhou Municipal Natural Resources and Planning Bureau, People’s Government of Ouhai District, and Wenzhou-Kean University, brought together domestic and international expert think tanks to jointly explore new paths for green development and contribute to the nation’s achievement of the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality.
November 17th
Wenzhou-Kean University successfully passed the accreditation evaluation by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
November 15th
six WKU courses were recognized as provincial first-class courses, including General Psychology, Principles and Laboratory of Microbiology, Principles of Marketing, Market Research, Introduction to Supply Chain Management, and UI/UX Design.
November 13th
a scientific sharing event of 2022 World Youth Scientists Summit was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. Yao Xianping, a member of foreign academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and fellow of the Chinese Chemical Society, and President of the Hangzhou Institute of Chemical Technology, along with Geng Chaoqiang, Executive Dean of the School of Basic Physics and Mathematical Sciences at the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered wonderful scientific and popular science sharing. Wenzhou-Kean University joined hands with the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology to sign a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement, aiming to jointly create a benchmark for strategic cooperation between universities and associations and promote the high-quality development of university science and technology associations.
November 12th
the 2022 World Youth Scientists Summit – 2022 World University Entrepreneurship Cup Award Ceremony and International Scientific and Technological Innovation Cooperation Forum were successfully held in a joint online-offline manner in Wenzhou, Beijing, and Copenhagen in Denmark. WKU BUD UNION’s Reading Buddy project won second place in the social entrepreneurship track of the growth group in the competition.
November 5th – 6th
in the 10th Zhejiang Provincial College Students’ Chinese Classic Reading Competition, WKU students Liu Yanxi from the 2021-level Communication, Hu Xiaoxiao from Psychology, and Zhu Junjie from Accounting were awarded the Second Prize in the provincial undergraduate individual category. Zhou Zhixuan, a student from Class of 2023 majoring in Accounting and Liu Yang, a student from Class majoring in Finance major received the Third Prize in the provincial undergraduate individual category.
October 23rd
the regional competition of the 9th Cross-Strait Interpreting Contest in East China came to a successful conclusion. Fu Marco, a WKU student from the Class of 2026 majoring in Economics, won the third prize.
October 9th
Xie Zuowei, a member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited Wenzhou-Kean University. He gained a comprehensive understanding of the university’s development process and recent achievements in talent cultivation, program development, scientific research, and laboratory construction. Chancellor Wang Li accompanied the visit.
September 12th
Wenzhou-Kean University student Li Xuan, carrying a model of Taishun s lounge bridge along with a personal letter from Frank Wang, the Chairman of the WKU Board of Directors and Chancellor Wang Li, traveled to Kean University in the United States and delivered them to President Lamont Repollet. President Repollet invited students to visit and closely experience the beauty of the Lounge bridge’s design. He earnestly hoped to witness the physical construction of the bridge on the Kean USA campus, symbolizing the friendship between the two countries.

the 5th Conference on Novel Materials and Technology was held in Hangzhou. Wang Li, Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, served as the chairman of the conference.
August 3rd,
Wenzhou-Kean University and Taishun County signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly establish a “Demonstration Zone for Common Prosperity.” Frank Wang, Chairman of the Board of Directors, and Li Jianfeng, the Deputy Party Secretary and County Governor of Taishun County, attended the signing ceremony.

the book launch event for the new book “Sage Beyond the Oceans” by author Jin Qingwei, titled “Millennial Commercial Port, The Age of Dreams,” was grandly held at the Ge He Kai Building of Wenzhou-Kean University.

the “Jin Rongxuan’s Ideology on School Operation” seminar was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. Leaders and experts, including Hu Rongdang, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Wenzhou Municiapal Committee and Chairman of Wenzhou Committee of the Democratic League, ZhuGe Qichuan, Vice Chairman of the CPPCC Wenzhou Municipal Committee and Chairman of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of Revolutionary Committee, and Ge Wujue, a national first-class writer and professor attended the seminar. Frank Wang, Chairman of the WKU Board of Directors, and Dr. Eric Yang, Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, were also in attendance.
June 13th
the final round of the “FLTRP·ETIC Cup” National College Students English Debate Competition concluded successfully. The representative team from Wenzhou-Kean University (Zhang Chong from the Class of 2024, Communication major, and Gu Jiaxuan from the Class of 2023, English major) won the second prize nationally.

Wenzhou-Kean University’s Accounting and Architecture programs were selected as provincial-level first-class undergraduate major construction points for 2021.
June 2nd
the commencement ceremony for the Class of 2022 of Wenzhou-Kean University was held. A total of 608 undergraduate students and the first batch of 13 master’s students graduated. Chen Yingxu, Vice Mayor of the Wenzhou municipal government, attended the ceremony. Li Lanjuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering; Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University; Dr. Dawood Farahi, President Emeritus of Kean University; John Kean Jr., representative of the Kean family, and Philip Connelly, former Executive Vice President of Kean University and Wenzhou-Kean University, participated in the ceremony online. Frank Wang, Chairman of the WKU Board of Directors, presided over the ceremony.

Wenzhou-Kean University obtained the first batch of the “Zhejiang Green University (Higher Education)” title.
April 16th
Zhang Zhenfeng, Deputy Secretary of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee and Mayor, paid a visit to Wenzhou-Kean University. Zhang emphasized the importance of Wenzhou-Kean University staying true to its original aspiration, raising the standards, and striving for excellence. He highlighted the direction of being “high-level, international, and exemplary,” urging the university to integrate international excellence with Wenzhou’s distinctive features. He suggested that the university should learn from high-quality foreign universities’ educational resources, concepts, and models, closely aligning them with Wenzhou’s economic and social development needs. This will involve exploring a flexible institutional mechanism that suits the university’s characteristics, aiming to establish a fine example of Chinese-foreign cooperative universities and the Wenzhou model for China’s higher education reform. Wenzhou-Kean University signed strategic cooperative framework agreements for Cooperation on Joint Project for Graduate Students Development with local educational bureaus, including Education Bureau of Ouhai District, Yueqing Education Bureau, and Yongjia Education Bureau. The University aims to further cooperate in education with those parties and realize the goal of training high-level international talents for Wenzhou’s education sector and promoting high-quality education development in Wenzhou.

On May 26th, the Wenzhou-Kean University Experimental Primary School Plaque Awarding Ceremony was held in Wenzhou Guangchang Road Primary School Bailuzhou Campus.
Wenzhou-Kean University won first and third prize and academic support prize in Tell China’s Stories Test. The contest is organized by China International Communications Group and guided by State Council Information Office. Mr. Wang Beijiao, Chairman of Board of Directors traveled to Beijing and received this award as the first prize winner representative.

The Promotion Conference of Building WKU into an internationalized High-level University was held on campus. Mr. Chen Weijun, the then-member of Zhejiang Province CPC standing Committee and Party Secretary of Wenzhou Municipal CPC Committee, sent a message to all WKU community. He hoped all WKU community remember President Xi’s expectations and work hard to build WKU into a fine example of China-U.S. cooperative university and write an important chapter in building “Important showcase”. Dr. Lamont Repollet, President of Kean University and President Emeritus of Kean University Dr. Dawood Farahi, delivered video messages. Experts and scholars in China and abroad gathered online and offline. Dr. Huang Wei, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Foreign Member of Russian Academy of Sciences; Mr. Lin Jinhui, member of Wenzhou-Kean University Advisory Committee, and Director of the Research Center for Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools, Xiamen University, gave keynote reports. Dr. Huang Wei was appointed as an honorary professor and member of the WKU Advisory Committee of Wenzhou-Kean University. Professor Yan Deyue, an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, celebrated polymer chemist visited Wenzhou-Kean University and gave a lecture to the WKU community.

15 teams with a total of 41 WKUers involved stood out from competitive participating teams across the world (77,594 students from 1,576 institutions), including one Finalist (award rate 0.17%), one Meritorious Winner (award rate 7%), and two Honorable Mention (award rate 15.35%). This was the first time that WKU Students organized to attend a math contest at such a level and won such great honor.
In April, Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University Dr. Wang Li was named Foreign Academician of the Russian Academy of Engineering.

Wang Pengchao, a senior at Wenzhou-Kean University, attended the 2021 Youth Forum hosted by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). More than 60 youth representatives from 40 countries participated in this forum, and Wang was one of the two Chinese students. He spoke for China on drug prevention and treatment issues at the forum.

Mr. Yang Guoqiang, Vice President of the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and President of Wenzhou Institute, visited Wenzhou-Kean University. The two sides reached an agreement on research cooperation and graduate program, thus advancing development in bio-material and intelligence medical devices. James R. Heller, Consul General at the U.S Consulate General in Shanghai, and Jeremy Beck, Chief of Provincial Relations Office, led a delegation to visit Wenzhou-Kean University. He highly appreciated the efforts and fruitful outcomes of WKU, and especially, he highlighted the pivotal role that WKU has played to strengthen the non-government exchanges between China and the United States and the significant contributions it made to forge a better bilateral relation.

He gave a lecture on From Robot to Intelligent Robot: Key technologies and Development Trend, sharing his thoughts on China’s future research development.

Chen Tianlong Art Museum was opened after three-year long preparation. This is the first university museum in Wenzhou named after an individual artist. Chen Tianlong is one of the most representative figures among the first generation of oil painters in Wenzhou after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. The art museum collected 50 paintings, and 69 artworks were displayed in the first exhibition named Natural Selection.

Wenzhou-Kean University Bioinformatics International Science and Technology Cooperation Base was listed in Zhejiang provincial International Science and Technology Cooperation Base. The platform will focus on biological medicine and big data research and development. The team consists of 11 members. All the members are overseas high-level talents holding Ph.D. degrees.

Participants from the nine joint universities gathered and discussed the opportunities and challenges of IT application in universities. IT department heads and engineers of Duke Kunshan University, New York University Shanghai, Xi’an Jiaotong-liverpool University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong (Shenzhen), and International Campus of Zhejiang University shared their experience on IT work during the pandemic, hybrid teaching mode in the post-pandemic era, and smart campus construction.

The Parallel Forum of China Social Enterprise and Impact Investing Forum–Made in Wenzhou, Global Fight against Pandemic, was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. The forum was organized by Wenzhou-Kean University Education Foundation and co-organized by Blazing Youth Community, SG Grind Wenzhou, Guoji Internet Information Technology, Yuanda Think Tank. Around 100 participants were invited to the forum, including entrepreneurs, investors, professors, and government officers. They showed their sense of responsibility among the Wenzhou enterprises and social organizations in the face of the pandemic. Jiang Yu, Deputy Director General of Zhejiang Civil Affairs Bureau, delivered an opening speech online, and Ma Xiangyu, and President of China Social Enterprise and Impact Investing Forum, also sent a congratulatory message to the forum.

INTER-WORLD-VIEW workshop highlighting intelligence and art was held at Wenzhou-Kean University. Sun Zhouxing, Dean of Humanities School of Tongji University, Wang Hongzhe, assistant professor of Journalism and Communication School of Peking University, Bai peigeng, Xu Weijing, professors in Media and Arts at Duke Kunshan University, RAQS Media Collective, artists, Timothy Marzullo, Founder of Brain Neuroscience Laboratory, Luo Wei, Chief Engineer of Huawei Cyberverse, and Carlo Ratti, a professional architect, and engineer from MIT, were invited to join the workshop. These ten scholars were from the fields of natural science, social science, humanities, and culture participated. They questioned science in the form of art, interpreted art from a scientific perspective, and highlighted a series of cross-disciplinary debates on the universal questions that were interested in both scientists and humanistic intellectuals with WKUers.

Wenzhou-Kean University signed an agreement with the Wenzhou Council for the Promotion of International Trade to jointly build an internship base. The base will fully leverage WKU’s students’ advantage as global citizens and help attract foreign investment.

60 freshmen arrived on campus as Wenzhou-Kean University’s first cohort of students recruited by independent admissions. In fall 2020, the University actively responded to the policy released by the Ministry of Education on expanding independent admissions among Sino-foreign cooperative universities and successfully completed the four rounds of recruitment work. The University enrolled 213 students who intended to study abroad after high school and transfer students who have already studied overseas. Many of them held acceptance letters from world-renowned universities, including the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Purdue University, and the University of Edinburgh.

The 3rd Session of the Sino-Foreign Cooperative University Library Annual Conference was successfully held at Wenzhou-Kean. Themed as Challenge, Innovation, Development, the conference continues to serve as a stage to discuss Library Services Marketing & Promotion, Cooperation on Acquisitions, Resources Sharing, and the future development of Sino-Foreign University Libraries. Secretary of Wenzhou CPC Committee Chen Weijun visited Wenzhou-Kean University. The delegation also includes member of the Standing Committee of Wenzhou CPC Committee and Director of Wenzhou Publicity Department Hu Jianjin, and member of the Standing Committee of Wenzhou CPC Committee and Secretary General of Wenzhou Municipal Government Wang Jun. Chen Weijun said during the visit, Wenzhou-Kean University is a showcase to demonstrate universities in Wenzhou, but also ties up the friendship between China and the U.S. The first postgraduate cohort is a milestone of development, and he looked forward to greater progress in the future. Chen also extended festive greetings to all faculty and staff.

The Opening Ceremony was held, and 800 newcomers (including undergraduate and postgraduate students) attended the ceremony. The cohort came from 19 provinces, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan. International students came from countries including the U.S., Korea, Venezuela, and Bangladesh. The 800 newcomers are consisted of WKU’s first postgraduate cohort, which is a fundamental milestone along the history of WKU.

Deputy Director of Zhejiang Provincial Education Department Yu Yongming chose Wenzhou-Kean University as the first stop in Wenzhou and inspected the campus on pandemic prevention and control, preparations for school opening, online courses progresses, and faculty and students who were at the time abroad. Yu spoke highly of Wenzhou-Kean’s work done against the onset of COVID-19.

To safeguard students, faculty and staff’s health against the onset of COVID-19, WKU launched online teaching. The unique platform was jointly built by Kean University’s outstanding teaching resources, where 122 faculty members from 28 countries and regions could interact with students from 17 provinces in China, to ensure the teaching and learning of WKU students.

The 2019 Wenzhou Top Ten Internationalization Events Ceremony and the 2020 Pareto Public Policy Salon (the 3Rd Session), hosted by Wenzhou Internationalization Research and Development Promotion Center and Zhejiang Daily Wenzhou, were held at World Wenzhounese Home. WKU’s newly started postgraduate programs was among the top ten events. Other events such as World Young Scientist Summit brought WKU the Nobel Prize Winner Akira Suzuki’s lecture, and WKU community also contributed to the international entrepreneurship group Startup Grind’s launch in Wenzhou.

Four months after the establishment of WKU’s TOFEL Test Center. Wenzhou-Kean University passed the test by the Ministry of Education Test Center and was approved to establish a GRE Test Center. As the only GRE Test Center in South Zhejiang Province, the establishment would bring students in the area great benefits. The China-U.S. Economy Trade Science Technology Education Culture Cooperation Reception was held in Hangzhou, where representatives of industries and academia from both China and the U.S. gathered together. The reception was held as a platform to boost communication, build mutual trust, settle differences, and promote healthy development for China-U.S. civil exchange and cooperation. Guests included representatives of government departments, overseas Chinese and industries. The reception also invited the former United States Assistant Secretary of Commerce Huang Jiannan and Vice President of Zhejiang University He Lianzhen as special guests.

Professor Yang Wei, the former President of Zhejiang University gave a lecture—Research Landscape of Mainland China at WKU campus. He is a Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Treasure of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), and a Foreign Member of National Academy of Engineering (USA). Dr. Yang used to serve as the Chairman of the Advisory Council of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). At the lecture, he introduced the current Research Landscape of Mainland China and shared his thoughts on China’s research development.

Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University, Dr. Wang Li announced that WKU was approved to offer 11 graduate-level programs and graduates will receive degrees from Kean University. The eight master programs and three doctoral programs are: Computer Information Systems (M.S.), Instruction and Curriculum (M.A.), Global Management (MBA), Biotechnology Science (M.S.), Psychology (M.A.), Educational Administration (M.A.), Architecture (M.Arch.), Accounting (M.S.), Combined School and Clinical Psychology (Psy.D.), Counseling and Supervision (Ph.D.) and Educational Leadership (Ed.D.). The University rolls out three programs in 2020.

WKU made its debut on the National Spirit-Chinese Dream-Zhejiang College Student Art Festival. WKU students won the first-prize in dancing category with the dance “Fearless”. The Dance Trio “Origin of the Dai Water” performed by Song Yuxia, Zhu Zheyan and Wang Yihan won the third prize. Wang Yichen won the outstanding singer award with the song “Speechless”.

A delegation consisting of 19 principals from Zhejiang Province participated in the 10-day Zhejiang-New Jersey STEM Education Training in Union, New Jersey. 21 members of Chinese Students and Scholars Association of Kean University and WKU exchange students served as volunteers during the training session.

Nobel Prize Laureate Professor Akira Suzuki gave a lecture on The Way to Suzuki Reaction at WKU. This lecture is one of the sessions of World Young Scientist Summit (Wenzhou)—Nobel, I am Waiting Here for You in the Future. WKU Chancellor Dr. Wang Li awarded him the WKU medal.

The first TOEFL center in southern Zhejiang area was unveiled at WKU. This meant that Wenzhou becomes the third city in Zhejiang Province to have TOEFL test sites. Students from southern Zhejiang area and northern Fujian area may attend the test in Wenzhou.

The 2019 Joint Conference on Social Networks, Pattern Recognition and Artificial Intelligence was held at WKU. The Joint Conference was hosted by Optics and Photonics Society of Singapore-China and Association for Social Networks and Social Networks Innovation Center, Taiwan, China, and organized by WKU. The Conference lasted three days as scheduled.

The fourth WKU Commencement Ceremony was held in Wenzhou Grand Theatre. 433 graduates received their diplomas and certificates. Mr. Chen Weijun, Vice Governor of Zhejiang and Secretary of Wenzhou CPC Committee sent three “invitation letters” to our graduates. President of Kean University Dr. Farahi and Chancellor of Wenzhou-Kean University Dr. Wang Li extended their sincere wishes to the graduates. Zhejiang-New Jersey STEM Innovation Education Forum was held in WKU CBPM. The forum was hosted by Zhejiang Education International Exchange Association and Kean University, and co-hosted by Wenzhou-Kean University, Zhejiang Education Department Teaching and Research Office, Wenzhou Education Bureau, and Wenzhou High School of Arts. The forum gathered experts in the field of education, and was attended by Deputy Director of Zhejiang Education Department Yu Yongming. The forum discussed how we enhance STEM education including technology and engineering in K12 education, and explored potentials of establishing STEM-oriented schools.

The 2019 WKU Three-in-One Exam was held. The quota this year is 100 with two new programs namely Biology (Cell and Molecular Biology) and architecture. The number of applicants reached a record high of 957, and 574 were qualified to take the exam.
March 14th
WKU held the Inaugural Meeting of the Association for Science and Technology of Wenzhou –Kean University and the membership’s first meeting. The meeting elected the first committee, standing committee and leadership. Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Dr. Eric Yang was elected Chair of the first standing committee. Vice Chair of Wenzhou Municipal Association for Science and Technology Lu Qianfan attended the meeting and unveiled the plate.
