a) Process for Housing application
Please fill out the Housing Application (Attachment 1) with the preferences 1.2.3.4, and send the complete application to huchunchun@wku.edu.cn. The University will try to accommodate all employees’ needs according to the order of applications received and the size of the household. Please be advised that if the applicant is unable to move into the apartment within one month after the semester starts, the application will be canceled automatically.
b) Housing Options
WKU offers four (4) housing options, including Jinzhu Jiayuan, Xin Tian Yuan, Li’ou Jinyuan, and Santalum Apartment. All housing is subject to availability and housing subsidies are provided to defray basic living costs. A housing subsidy of $3,000.00 will be provided to each employee for stints of two (2) consecutive semesters (fall and spring). A housing subsidy of $1,500.00 will be provided for a one (1) semester stint (fall or spring).
Housing arrangements are coordinated by representative Ms. Chunchun Hu (Chelsea) from the Office of Human Resources.
1) Jinzhu Jiayuan (金竹嘉园)
This housing option allows no pets. It offers 60sqm apartments which contain 1 bedroom, 1 living room, 1 bathroom, and 1 balcony. It’s about 10-minute driving distance from the WKU campus. For your convenience, a campus shuttle bus is available at scheduled times throughout the day. The chart below outlines the annual rental costs for the apartments. WKU will provide extra subsidy for this housing option, and residents only pay out-of-money of 2900RMB/year for the rent:

2) Xin Tian Yuan (新田园)
Xin Tian Yuan is the government-subsidized housing, and the rent is lower than the market price. This option has elevator service. XTY locates in Wenzhou downtown, and the commute to and from campus is 40 minutes each way. For your convenience, a campus shuttle bus is available at scheduled times throughout the day. The chart below outlines what the annual rental costs look like for the various sized apartments:

Please be advised that there is a TV in the apartment, but residents will have to apply for the cable service on their own.
There’re a few renovated apartments in XTY. The project was mainly about:
- Repainting the walls;
- Replacing the lights;
- Replacing the washing machines;
- Replacing the worn-out covers of the sofas.
The below chart outlines the rent of the renovated apartments.

3) Li’ou Jinyuan (丽欧锦园)
Li’ou Jinyuan is right across from the WKU campus, and it takes 3 minutes to walk from/to campus. This housing option allows employees to live near campus and also has elevator service. The chart below outlines what the annual rental costs will look like for the various size apartments:

Please be advised that there is no TV in the apartment, residents will have to buy a TV and apply for the service on their own as needed.
Since the apartments are decorated by different individuals, the apartments vary from each other, and there’s no picture for reference.
4) Santalum Apartment (丽檀山居) ( fully reserved, no availability)
Santalum Apartment is on WKU campus. It is the only housing option that has no elevator and allows no pets. The chart below outlines what the annual rental costs look like for the various sized apartments:

c)Additional Information about Living in China
For your convenience, please prepare some cash (approximately 5000RMB) to purchase food and some necessities upon your arrival.
Residents are required to pay a security deposit of 3000 RMB and sign an Accommodation Agreement (Attachment 2) with the University upon moving into the apartment. When moving out of the apartment, any unpaid bills and/or damages/losses will be deducted against the deposit.
d)Shipping
To avoid any loss, please do not ship packages too early to WKU, and it’s suggested to send off the packages a few days ahead before the departure so that you could receive the packages by yourselves by the time you arrive in Wenzhou.
e)Moving Apartment
Under normal circumstances, residents will NOT be given an option to transfer to another rental apartment. For the returning faculty who have to move, there’s a designated moving period. An email will be sent by HR to introduce the process in .
